DEPRESSED? DON'T MAKE US LAUGH

A local comedian has blasted back at a survey that claims this area is one of the unhappiest in Britain.

The research conducted by the University of Sheffield - and presented at the Royal Geographical Society’s annual conference indicated that Cumnock and Doon Valley was the fourth unhappiest place in the whole of the United Kingdom.

Resident comic and king of the after-dinner circuit Jim ‘Buller’ Reid agrees there is an industrial depression, but he insists it is not reflected in the mood of the people.

Mr Reid said: “The people of the area don’t make the area depressed. A lack of investment as far as the employment situation is concerned has made the area depressed.

“Even after the miners strikes in the 80s, and everything this area has had thrown at it over the years, people are still smiling.”
