A beloved pet dog was fatally wounded and found on the A76 almost two miles from his kennel.

The pet’s owner believes he was snatched while she was in the town centre.

Distraught Pensioner Kathleen mcFarlane returned home to find her 15-month old black labrador ‘Duke’ missing from his kennel outside her home at Glenlamont Crescent on August 7.

Mrs McFarlane said: “Somebody passing must have just let him out, Nothing has ever been stolen from me before and I don’t know why this has happened.”

However the pensioner is upset she never got to lay her pet to rest and claims the Council acted ‘too quickly in disposing Duke’s body’.

She said: “I phoned up right away to the Council but they said they didn’t know what had happened to it. I was in a state of shock.”

William Stafford, Executive Director of Neighbourhood Services said: “Mrs McFarlane has been in touch with Council and whilst we sympathise with her, we remain in the view that we acted in good faith at all times.”
