KELLY: I DID NOTHING WRONG OVER GIFT

Councillor says he accepted Barcelona junket 'in good faith'
Local councillor Jimmy Kelly insists he did nothing wrong in accepting a trip to Barcelona as a gift from Scottish Coal.
Councillor Kelly spoke to the Chronicle after a story was printed in a national newspaper over the issue and revealed he declared in his register of interests a trip to see Barcelona v Celtic, which included flights and stay in a hotel.
Councillor Kelly denied the national newspaper’s claims that the trip cost £3,000 but stated he didn’t see a problem when he took it.
East Ayrshire Council Chief Executive Fiona Lees defended the gift but accepted it was ‘excessive.’
