HAULAGE FIRM LOSES £1MILLION CONTRACT

The loss of a £1million-a-year haulage contract could have an impact on the local area.

But leading local employer Tom French and Sons says the breakdown of negotiations over the lucrative Scottish Coal deal will not lead to job losses.

Scottish Coal are now using other firms, including from the North of England, to transport coal from their local sites. They claim that despite an agreement initially being reached, Mr French then came back asking for more money because of soaring fuel costs.

Mr French says that he is still hopeful of a resolution and that the two parties are 'not a million miles from each other'.
