MP SLAMS TOWN CENTRE DELAY AS UNACCEPTABLE
By Roddie McVake
A local MP has condemned delays to the Cumnock Town Centre redevelopment project as 'totally unacceptable' following news that Jobcentre Plus has withdrawn from the plans.
Labour MP Sandra Osborne helped encourage Jobcentre Plus to move into one of the new purpose-built offices when discussions first got underway, and is now deeply concerned that delays have led to that plan falling by the wayside.
She revealed to the Chronicle that money set aside originally by the organisation had to be spent within a certain time period yet an extension had been agreed, prior to Jobcentre Plus abandoning the project last week.
Now Mrs Osborne is demanding answers from the Council and believes there now needs to be active intervention to speed up the regeneration process.
