East Ayrshire residents have been urged to voice their opinions on proposed changes to the council tax system - with Finance Secretary John Swinney adamant that people in the area will be better off under a local income tax set-up.

With plans to canvass public opinion on scrapping the council tax and replacing it with the new system, there has been criticism that households in this area will actually be worst off under the SNP's plans.

But Mr Swinney has bit back at the critics, saying the local income tax will see four out of five households better off, and he invited the public to have their say.

WHAT DO YOU THINK, IS SCRAPPING THE COUNCIL TAX AND REPLACING IT WITH LOCAL INCOME TAX A GOOD IDEA? FEEL FREE TO VOTE NOW IN OUR ONLINE POLL.
